LITERACY CAMPAIGN

Literacy program in Rewari and Bawal blocks of District Rewari organized from 1983 to 1993. About 34000 male and female (illiterate) between the age group of 15- 45 years were made literate by the workers and staff of Janta Kalyan Samiti, Rewari during this period. This program was run by Janta Kalyan Samiti with the financial assistance of Government of India, Ministry of HRD,  Department of Education. The Institution engaged in literacy work with district administration, Rewari under TLC program also. Due to the efforts & support of community as well as hard work of members and staff of Samiti, the Institution got NATIONAL TAGORE LITERACY AWARD 1999.

    Research work

    Research works were made in Population and Adult Education under the guidance & close supervision of senior staff members and full-fledged project of Population Education related Adult Education  was started in 1984 which was completed in 1987 with the assistance of Family Planning Foundation of India and Indian Adult Education Association, New Delhi. Project was implemented in the rural area in Haryana state which was taken up as the operational area connected with the literacy program especially for neo- literates and adults. One research project in Natural Disaster Mitigation was completed and report was submitted to Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India.

    PUBLICATION OF LITERATURE FOR ADULT & NEO- LITERATES

    Various books have been written by Sh. R. N. Mahlawat and these books published by Janta Kalyan Samiti, Rewari. The names of books are Anpadh Tai, Andhere Se Ujale Mein, Saksharta Sandesh & Teacher’s Diary. The Institution also coordinated and assisted with Govt. of India, Ministry of HRD, Department of Education, Directorate of Adult Education, New Delhi and produced literature for adults and neo- literates for use in all Districts of the country. Workshops were conducted by Directorate of Adult Education, New Delhi at Rewari in collaboration with Janta Kalyan Samiti and with close assistant of Staff & Management. Khilti Kaliyan, Dharti Ke Lal, Agala Kadam books were prepared and pre-tested before printing with the help of our Samiti at Rewari. The operational area of the Institution was taken up for this research program and material production for adults and neo-literates. Recently one book “बाल यौन शोषण रोकथाम कैसे व् कौन करे” has also been published, distributed and sold in Educational Institute, public & Police department in Haryana & Rajasthan States.

    TRAINING PROGRAMS OF SENIOR LEVEL FUNCTIONARIES

    Specific training programs for Senior Level Functionaries Haryana State and voluntary agencies were conducted by the Institution. The Institution with the financial assistance of Roby kid Foundation and technical support of Indian Adult Education Association, New Delhi conducted training programs of senior level functionaries, officials of Govt. Deptt. Office bearers of voluntary agencies of Haryana State in 1987, 1991, 1992, 1994 add 1998. Orientation training programs were arranged for office bearers of NGOs. Orientation training programs for senior level functionaries of Zila Saksharta Samiti, Haryana State and other office bearers of NGOs were conducted under the guidance of Management and supported by Indian Adult Education Association, Haryana State Branch time to time.

    ALL INDIA ADULT EDUCATION CONFERENCE

    The Institution assisted the India Adult Education Association in organizing 40th All India Adult Education Conference at Rewari. About 250 delegates all over the country were hosted by Janta Kalyan Samiti in 4 days conference in 1987.

    AWARENESS CAMPS

    About 200 awareness camps were organized in the operational area for poor laborers and neo-literates in collaboration with Shramik Shiksha Kendra, Faridabad, Ministry of Labor, Govt. of India and financial support in the shape of honorarium to the participants was provided specially in rural area. Special training programs & camps were conducted in our training centre by organizers of Shramik Shiksha Kendra, Faridabad.

    PROUDH MELA

    Gramin Mela on adult education with the help of Haryana Education Department and Village Panchayats were organized to propagate the literacy activities especially in rural areas. Exhibitions, rural games and sports organized time to time and competitions for neo- literates were also organized.

    INCOME GENERATING PROJECTS FOR NEEDY

    Vocational courses for neo-literates, poor rural women were organized. The Sewing and Craft Centers, Typing and Stenography Centers had been arranged for poor people for their upliftment and to generate their income especially for women. Cultural programs through drama and bhajan party were organized in the operational area for propagation of Adult Education and National Programs.

    SPECIAL TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR NEEDY WOMEN

    Two office management courses for 45 Adult women and two condensed courses of Adult women run by Samiti with the financial assistance of Central Social Welfare Board, Delhi and beneficiaries got stipend and assistance due to special efforts of Management of Samiti. Most of the beneficiaries placed in jobs for livelihood.

    FAMILY COUNSELLING CENTRE

         The Institution also run Family Counselling Centre with the assistance of Central Social Welfare Board Delhi under the direction of Management & Staff. Various adult needy women have been benefited and the poor woman in the age group of 18 to 45 got benefited. Legal literacy program for women was implemented in the operational area through the legal aid programs. Disputes were settled and free Legal Aid was provided to the needy.    

    POST LITERACY PROGRAMME   

    The Institution had run 37 Jan Sikshan Niliyams during 89-90, 90-91 and upto September 91 Post Literacy and follow up program for neo-literates in Rewari and Bawal blocks and about 26000 neo- literates were covered for post literacy activities. 18,500 people of community also covered. Literacy schemes in villages and continuing education work was done through the workers of Samiti. The program had been interlinked with open schooling and Distance Education Program for neo-literates under Open Basic Education Program.

    CONTINUING & NON FORML EDUCATION

    The institution Run 100 NFE centers in Rewari and Bawal blocks of Rewari District especially in rural areas and about 9000 children in the age group of 6-14 years were benefited. These children belong to backward poor and scheduled caste families and all sort of assistance regarding teaching and learning materials were provided to the centers and beneficiaries. The program was run under close supervision and guidance of Management. Financial assistance was provided by Govt. of India. About 3600 children in the age group of 11-15 years were benefited and obtained class 5th certificate in formal system through Haryana Education Department as the candidates were prepared in NFE project

    SELF SUFFICIENT INSTITUTION

    The Institution is having its own training centre and building for imparting training to instructors, supervisors, APOs & POs and sufficient Infrastructures and Resource Persons are available with the institution. During the tenure of 15 years of literacy program with the assistance of other agencies like Indian Adult Education Association, training programs for Resource Persons and Master Trainers engaged in TLC Rewari District were organized by the Samiti under the close supervision and direction of Management and experts of Samiti.

    DISTANCE EDUCATION

    The Institution has been doing commendable work in the field of distance education and has been accredited by the National Open School (now National Institute of Open Schooling), Department of Education, Ministry of HRD for formal education also vide accreditation No: 0501 (New 050001). The Institution has achieved success in implementing the correspondence process of 8th, 10th & 12th class students in Haryana State and especially for poor people, Ex-servicemen, SC, working women, neo- literates and handicapped. About thousands of persons have been benefited so far. This process is very much effective for the benefits of neo- literates and their family members. Most of the middle class instructors of Adult Education Programme have increased their qualifications up to Senior Secondary Level class and got regular employment in Teaching, Army and Clerical jobs. Special efforts were made to give the benefit to rural middle class women.

    LITERATURE AND PUBLICATION

    One newsletter (Suchna Patra) was being published regularly and fortnightly paper “padho- padhao” was also published for neo- literates which were edited by the experts of the Management. Rural games and exhibitions were also organized by the Institution. Especially the rural people and neo- literates were covered through these programs. Sh. Mahlawat was connected as Member Editorial Board with the Indian Journal of Adult Education & Proudh Shiksha monthly journal published & circulated from IAEA Head Quarter New Delhi.

    SOCIAL WELFARE ACTIVITIES

    Cases for old age, widow pension, handicapped scholarship, deserted children and financial assistance matters of about 4000 needy persons during 50 years have been forwarded to connected agencies and needy man and woman got benefited. This noble work is done by the workers and staff of Samiti regularly. Blankets, shoes, clothes, woolen clothes distributed every year to the poor students in school. The workers of the Samiti participated in the relief work along with district administration of Rewari in flood area of Bawal block and arranged food, water, medicines, etc for four days to affected people at the time of heavy flood.

    PARTICIPATION IN TLC

    The Rewari district consisting of six blocks including two blocks of operational area of the institution were covered in 1995-95, 95-96 & so on for total literacy campaign with the financial assistance of Government of India. The District Administration under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner had extended their hands for full cooperation with the Janta Kalyan Samiti. The Management and Staff with the team of workers of the Institution had given full support for total literacy campaign in the District by way of providing all sorts of assistance regarding training, administration, survey and orientation program of Resource persons, Master Trainers & Volunteers in the district. For this purpose the initial preparation regarding Survey, training to Master Trainers, Resource Persons including the Volunteers was completed. A Committee consisting of Project Director of Janta Kalyan Samiti, Rewari District Education Officer, Rewari Sub Divisional Magistrate, Rewari under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner was constituted, for overall supervision control of the TLC. Mr. R. N. Mahlawat head of the Institute was looking after the program as Vice Chairman with the help of District Officials and Officers of the district were earmarked some villages and the responsibility was fixed to take necessary steps. The Master Trainers and the Volunteers tried to reach the illiterate masses. The Samiti was honored by Governor of Haryana for literacy program in the District. The President & Specialist Staff of Samiti were deputed by the Ministry along with the experts of Indian Adult Education Association, New Delhi for concurrent evaluation of Total Literacy Campaign of district Rewari & the report was submitted to the Ministry of HRD, Department of Education.

    SPECIAL TRAINING PROGRAM IN NON FORMAL EDUCATION

    10 days residential training programs for Bal Sevikas engaged in NFE program run by Haryana State Child Welfare Council, Chandigarh organized by Janta Kalyan Samiti under the guidance of experts of Samiti. 60 Bal Sevikas throughout Haryana State participated. All the training programs for Instructors Preraks, APOs and other supervisory staffs engaged in NFE program run by the Samiti were also conducted under the direction of our experts & Resource Persons in our training center at Rewari.

    INTEGRATED CHILD DEVELOPMENT SCHEME

         A fully fledged Block was given by the Government of India for ICDS scheme, 94 Anganwaries were established in Madlauda block of Panipat since 1994 to 1996, 12,500 women in the age group of 18-45 and 4600 children between 0 to 5 years were covered for literacy, non formal education, immunization and nutrition program. Training of 3 months was imparted to 94 Anganwadi workers as well as 94 helpers in the training center of Janta Kalyan Samiti, at Rewari. This was the only Institution in the country where the residential training of 3 months was provided by staff in our own training centre for workers & helpers posted in Madlauda Block. The then Social Welfare Minister Capt. Ajay Singh, Senior Level Officer from State and Center also witnessed and visited the training program.  

    COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAM

         Special Computer Training (Job oriented) was imparted to 214 women in the age group of 18-40 years and most of them got job in respective fields. Vocational training has been imparted time to time. Typing and Stenography training also imparted to needy women in vocational training center of the Institution. One University (Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University) centre was established in the premises of Janta Kalyan Samiti for the benefit of youths.

    NATURAL DISASTER MITIGATION TRAINING

         A huge number of men and women were imparted training in natural disaster mitigation in Rewari district during the past. Seminars were organized and training programs for District/ Tehsil level officials also organized. The Institution organized these programs with the help of National Centre for Natural Disaster, New Delhi & office bearers of IAEA.

    CONSUMER AWARENESS PROGRAMME

         The staff of Institution under the close direction of Management has been doing commendable work in the field of Consumer Welfare Awareness Programs. Seminars at District, Sub Division, Tehsil and Block level were organized and about 3500 needy persons benefited. Needy consumers were advised for filing cases in consumer courts to get the relief under free legal aid program run by Samiti.

    SENIOR CITIZENS HOME

         The Samiti at this time has been running Senior Citizens Home at Bolni, District Rewari for providing all facilities like food/ shelter/ medicines/ clothes etc to needy Senior Citizens under the guidance of the Management. Previously it was running at Shakti Nagar Rewari till March 2023 but it has been shifted to Bolni since April 2023.

    NASHA MUKTI PROGRAM

         The Samiti has been running Nasha Mukti Awareness Program in Rewari & surrounding area for Adolescents & youths.

    MISC. IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES

         The Samiti had been the member of State Level Implementation Committee in National Voters Awareness Campaign under the State Election Commission.  Some experts in the Management of the Samiti had been connected with various State and National level committees like Member Executive Committee, Sharmik Shiksa Kender, Govt. of India, Ministry of Labor & Employment, Member Executive Committee National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development of WCD, Govt. of India. Resource Person National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi. Consultant National Commission for protection of child rights Govt. of India, Ministry of WCD. Member Executive Committee, Haryana State Prathmik Shiksha Priyojna Parishad (World Bank Aided Project of DPEP), Govt. of Haryana.
